Fiber Optic Network Operations Platform
A web & mobile platform for fiber optic network maintenance operations — from technician work orders and per-segment SLAs to cable route patrols.
Challenge
Maintaining a large-scale fiber optic network involves many roles: field technicians, verifiers, patrol teams, and warehouse keepers. Coordination was scattered across chat groups and spreadsheets — making it hard to track incident-handling SLAs, field team activity, and the work history of each cable segment. External threats such as heavy machinery operating near cable routes also needed monitoring to prevent network outages.
Solution
We built an integrated platform consisting of a web application (Next.js), a mobile app for technicians (Flutter), and a backend API (Express) with a scheduler for recurring jobs:
- Multi-level task management — work scheduling, technician task lists, and a verification workflow where verifiers review completed work.
- Network map & SLA — SLA attainment monitoring per cable segment with map visualization.
- Excavator & patrol tracking — logging heavy-equipment activity and routine patrols along cable routes to prevent dig-related outages.
- Network asset history — traceable documentation of work on segments, cores, and splicing points.
- Material warehouse — tracking network materials consumed by each job.
- Change requests, team monitoring, and user & permission management for operational governance.
Results
- The entire field work cycle — from assignment to verification — is recorded in one system.
- Management can monitor SLA attainment and team performance in real time.
- The mobile app became the daily tool for technicians and patrol teams in the field.
- Per-segment work history is well documented, speeding up future incident resolution.
